Explore Country through Nature Journaling

Join Living Strong to explore nature and connect to country through nature journaling.

Each session we will head outside to engage our senses and explore the connections between ourselves and the natural world around us. Create a nature journal page full of drawing, colour and details to create a memory of our days discoveries.

Nature journaling is a mixture of scientific observation, creativity and immersion in the natural environment. Bringing nature and art together gives us an appreciation of the natural beauty in our world and will deepen our respect for the environment. Nature provides many opportunities for discovery, creativity and problem solving. Interacting with the natural environment allows us to learn by doing and experimenting with ideas.

Bush Sense

Sensory play encourages learning through exploration, curiosity, problem solving and creativity. It helps to build nerve connections in the brain and encourages the development of language and motor skills. There are many benefits that may go unnoticed, such as the development of abilities to focus and block out distractions.

“When I hear, I forget. When I see, I remember. When I do, I understand.”

Our Bush Sense program focuses on the Five Senses of touch, sight, smell, taste, and hearing which are the key ways in which children take in information, respond to their environment, seek nourishment and comfort, and bond with those around them. Spending time in nature and choosing how they interact with their surroundings helps build confidence and a sense of connection to the world around them. This gives them practice managing their own actions and encourages creativity and imagination.

Watercolour on Country

Join Living Strong to discover the versatility and practicality of “sketching and drawing” with water colour in the outdoors.

Perfect for creating memories and connecting deeper to your surroundings.

Learn the basics of watercolour techniques for creating on the go watercolour pictures and overcoming obstacles unique to outdoor painting.

Bush Cycles

Join Living Strong Nature Journaling to learn about the cycles in nature. Life cycles are all around us. They are a part of us and part of every living thing. The bush is full of natural cycles. Learning about life cycles can help create a bigger picture of how the natural environment works. Understanding this, can help kids learn to respect and care for the world around them.

Each fortnight, we will explore a different lifecycle present in the bush at Living Strong. The children will learn through play, craft, observation and exploration.

Storytelling through Art

Storytelling has always been an important way of communicating knowledge, and the most important stories come from Country. Art is a beautiful and meaningful way to represent these stories.

Join Living Strong Nature Journaling and learn about some of the “stories of connection” which occur in the bush around us. Each fortnight we will explore a connection between plants, animals, weather and country and create an artwork which represents this story of connection.

Mixed media will be used including acrylic, watercolour paint, colour pencil, chalk pastel, ink and graphite.
